VERIFY A MEXICAN DENTIST’S CREDENTIALS
Before agreeing to treatment, confirm that the person treating you has a registered Mexican professional license, called a cédula profesional.
OFFICIAL SEP PROFESSIONAL LICENSE SEARCH
Use Mexico’s official Sistema de Cédulas Profesionales. Ask the dentist for their complete legal name and cédula number. The search is free.

WHAT THE SEP RECORD SHOULD SHOW
• Dentist’s full legal name
• Professional license number
• University or educational institution
• Registered degree or profession
Make sure the record matches the dentist who will personally perform your procedure.
VERIFY SPECIALTY TRAINING SEPARATELY
A general dental license does not prove specialty training. For orthodontics, root canals, implants, oral surgery or another specialty, ask for the separate specialty cédula and search it independently through the SEP registry.
CONAEDO DENTAL-PROGRAM INFORMATION
CONAEDO evaluates dental education programs in Mexico. Program accreditation is a useful quality indicator, but it does not replace verification of the individual dentist’s professional and specialty cédulas.

PATIENT CHECKLIST
-
Verify the dentist’s legal name and professional cédula number.
-
Verify specialty credentials separately.
-
Ask who will perform every stage of treatment.
-
Request a written diagnosis and itemized estimate.
-
Keep your treatment plan, X-rays, receipts and warranty terms.
POSSIBLE RED FLAGS
• Refusal to provide a license number
• Registry information that does not match the treating dentist
• An advertised specialty without a verifiable specialty credential
• Pressure to begin treatment without a written estimate
IMPORTANT LIMITATION
A registry result confirms that a credential is recorded. It does not guarantee treatment quality or a particular outcome. Also consider experience, communication, sanitation, follow-up care and independent reviews.
Nuevo Progreso Dental Guide provides general educational information and does not certify or endorse a dentist solely because the dentist appears in a registry.
